Overview — Sprockets for Elevators & Lifts

Chain-driven elevators and goods lifts rely on sprockets that must never fail. From construction hoists on Sydney high-rises to warehouse goods lifts in Melbourne distribution centres, the drive sprocket is the critical link between the motor and the lifting chain that carries passengers, goods, and equipment vertically.

Ever-Power Australia Sprockets Co., Ltd. mengeluarkan elevator-grade sprockets from premium alloy steel, carburised for surface hardness while maintaining a tough, shock-resistant core. Every sprocket is individually serialised, dimensionally verified on CMM, and ships with EN 10204 3.1 material certificates — meeting the stringent documentation requirements of AS 1735 and EN 81.

How Sprockets Work in Elevators

In a chain-driven elevator (also called a “chain-drum” or “direct-drive” lift), a gearmotor turns a drive sprocket that engages a heavy-duty lifting chain. The chain connects directly to the elevator car (or to a counterweight arrangement). As the sprocket rotates, it winds or unwinds the chain, raising or lowering the car.

▸ Goods lifts / freight elevators: Often use ANSI 120–200 duplex or triplex chains with large-diameter, low-tooth-count sprockets for high torque at low speed.

▸ Construction hoists: Rack-and-pinion is common, but chain-driven models use sprockets on the drive mast to pull the cage upward.

▸ Car-park stackers: Chain-and-sprocket drives raise and lower vehicle platforms in automated parking systems.

Panduan Pemilihan

  1. Determine lift type: goods, passenger, construction, stacker.
  2. Identify chain pitch, strand count, and working load limit (WLL).
  3. Measure shaft bore, keyway, and hub mounting space.
  4. Confirm required safety factor per local regulations (AS 1735, EN 81).
  5. Specify environment: indoor, outdoor, corrosive, temperature extremes.

Our engineers provide verified cross-references and compliance documentation. Enquire now.

Pemasangan

  1. De-energise lift and apply LOTO per AS/NZS 4024 and AS 1735.
  2. Support the elevator car/counterweight with mechanical locks before releasing the chain.
  3. Disconnect chain and remove old sprocket from drive shaft.
  4. Inspect shaft, bearings, and gearbox output coupling. Replace worn components.
  5. Clean shaft, apply anti-seize, and mount new sprocket. Torque taper lock to spec.
  6. Verify sprocket alignment with laser tool; ≤ 0.2 mm offset.
  7. Reconnect chain with new master link rated to chain WLL.
  8. Set chain tension per OEM manual; check with the car at each floor level.
  9. Run lift through full travel 5 times at low speed; check chain tracking and noise.
  10. Perform load test per AS 1735; document results in lift logbook.

Penyelesaian masalah

Car levelling error at floor stops

Punca: Chain stretch or sprocket tooth wear causing positional drift. Betulkan: Measure chain pitch; replace chain/sprocket if stretch > 1%.

Grinding noise during operation

Punca: Sprocket misalignment or chain-guide contact. Betulkan: Re-align sprocket; adjust chain guides.

Chain slack accumulation

Punca: Worn sprocket teeth not gripping chain properly. Betulkan: Replace sprocket; reset tensioner.

Motor overcurrent at start-up

Punca: Sprocket bore seized on shaft or chain jam. Betulkan: Inspect bore for galling; lubricate; clear obstruction.

Vibration through building structure

Punca: Unbalanced sprocket or worn shaft bearings. Betulkan: Replace with dynamically balanced sprocket; renew bearings.
